March On: 3 Ways to Express Your Thanks on Military Appreciation Month
Every May, we give a nod to the brave men and women who currently (or previously) serve the country in military service. Since 2007, National Military Appreciation Month (NMAM) has become an avenue to pause and ponder on how the U.S. Armed Forces sacrifice their lives for the protection and development of the country.
Be it for them or the families left behind, here are some ways to show some love to the brave troops – to both the fallen and the fighting – and give them the respect they deserve. After all, we can only do so much compared to what they’re offering!
1. “Treat them” right. Simple picnics, home-cooked meals, throwing intimate barbecue parties, food stands, or hosting community gatherings – these are only some of the thoughtful little gestures you could extend to someone in local active duty, veterans, the Guard, or Reserve. If you run a small business, you could do well by sending some freebies or offering exclusive discounts, too!
2. Make them viral. Is someone in your family or social circles part of the military? Post their photo and write something about their time in service. How did they make your personal or community life better? How do they inspire you to become a good citizen? You could already start a digital movement with an act such as this! Inspire others to do the same and spread that spirit of unity.
3. Clothe them with pride. While the military wears their service like a badge of honor, add up to their expression of pride with patriotic threads! American-made and owned My Freedom Jersey has an extensive collection of commemorative jerseys that display what we are all about – One Nation, Indivisible, with Liberty, and Justice for All.
These will make for great NMAM gift ideas for both the troopers and their family members. You could also sport these nationalistic jerseys yourself - literally wearing your heart on your sleeves! Check out the sizers for baseball jerseys here. Collections of football, hockey, soccer, and bowling jerseys coming up soon!
Let’s not forget though that the most heartwarming way to show your gratitude to someone is with your words. You don’t know how far kind compliments and sincere thoughts inspire our armed forces to get through challenging times ahead. With everything they go through in their jobs, constant encouragement and prayers cover them more than we could ever know.
What do you think of these simple yet meaningful showcases of appreciation? If you have any suggestions, don’t forget to comment below. We’d love to hear how you’re celebrating NMAM, too!
