Every year, the United States holds a national multi-event sports and recreational activity for its older veterans, in the pursuit of encouraging these heroes towards a healthy lifestyle regardless of abilities and disabilities. The National Veterans Golden Age Games (NVGAG) is an annual adaptive rehabilitation program created for senior veterans featuring a series of competitions in the spirit of good sportsmanship.
Due to the pandemic, this year’s event will transition to NVGAG at Home - challenges that will help participating veterans aged 55 and up to continue in athleticism and healthy living. On our part as grateful citizens, here are some ways we can support them and help them improve their quality of life!
1. Cheer them on.
These men and women endured battlefields and unbelievable obstacles back in their day. They are resilient beyond their years. Encouragement can still go a long way, especially when they are not as limber as they once were. If you know someone who will participate in NVGAG, give them a call or swing by for a visit to power them through the week-long activities.
2. Give them healthy presents.
Support their fitness goals by sending them fruit gift baskets, supplements, and workout gear. These veterans were honed through discipline, so staying healthy isn’t an issue for them. They’ll appreciate some help with supplies - even after the games. How about some delicious home-cooked meals for the veterans in your neighborhood - participants or not?
3. Surprise them with athletic pieces.
Sportsmanship and American pride - the perfect fuel to drive our beloved veterans to give their best in the upcoming games! Surprise them with 100% American-owned and made baseball jerseys to cover them with athleisure wear for the event. Not sure which one to get? A gift card should do the trick! Plus, proceeds from your purchase goes to the beneficiaries of the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization who also looks after the welfare of veterans and their families, helping them transition back into civilian life post-duty.
These golden heroes emerged victorious over difficult adversaries. Because of their bravery, we enjoy the freedom we have today. We hope to hear how you’re doing your share in creating a community that gives back to those who we’re indebted to!
