“Next to creating a life, the finest thing a man can do is save one.”—Abraham Lincoln
Saving lives — that’s what they do, yet in most cases, they are never in the spotlight. Our paramedics are the most overlooked healthcare team members. This time around, let’s celebrate and show our gratitude to them! They are one of the unsung heroes especially in this crisis. Here are 5 great reasons to pay tribute to the outstanding services of the paramedics.
1. Paramedics are the extensions of the doctors
Outside the hospital, it’s the paramedics who act as the extensions of the doctors and the physicians. Before the patient even reaches the hospital, it’s the paramedics first who perform emergency duties to stabilize the patient’s condition before any doctor can attend to him or her.
2. They take great risks for their own lives
As the first responders, their role is to save lives, but in the process, they are taking great risks for their own lives. In situations such as natural disasters and fire, they are at risk of being injured, which is why they have to ensure that the scene is safe before they can perform first aid.
3. They do more than just first aid
More than just giving first aid, the paramedics are also required to be highly skilled and knowledgeable on a lot of life support equipment to help them perform specific tasks, such as mechanical ventilators that supply oxygen to a patient who is having difficulties in breathing, and defibrillators that stabilize a patient’s irregular rhythm of the heart.
4. They are the first to attend to the patient
In emergency situations, it’s always the paramedics who attend to the patient first. They assess the patient’s needs and provide specific treatments in stabilizing his or her condition so that the patient can be transported safely to the hospital.
5. They are our unsung heroes beyond the four corners of the hospital
If there’s a top reason to pay tribute to the outstanding services of our paramedics, it’s because they are our unsung heroes beyond the four corners of the hospital. In times of need, there will always, always be the paramedics ready to provide us with the necessary medical care 24/7.
